I'm Mary
If you’re stuck, or overwhelmed or unfulfilled in your career, I’m here as you explore your next steps.
In my career I’ve found myself becoming ‘stuck’. Coaching has helped me to identify what’s wrong and where I want to head next. That’s half the way to moving on.
In life we can feel overwhelmed by family, personal and work challenges, and wonder which way to turn. A career pivot is when we choose to make changes that will result in a better balance between work and life, or to realign our work with our priorities.

Career Pivots - My story
I loved being in the speech and language therapy profession for 40 years. I had different clinical roles with children and adults and then took on new positions: leadership, governance, Board member, educator. All of these were fulfilling and gave me great experience to lead others (SLTs and other allied health professionals).
My first pivot
I left my NHS role to write a new MSc pre-registration programme at the University of Lincoln. It was the opportunity to design the way future SLT generations would be trained to think, work and make a difference. I was able to put my DNA into an education programme that will outlive my career. A legacy.

My second pivot
Like many other women in midlife what I really needed was greater flexibility. I left the University to focus on other areas of work that fulfil me. One of these is coaching. I’m here to give you the space and time to think about your future direction – and your next step. You’ll be surprised what happens next!

My career path so far
I’m 40 years into my Speech and Language therapy career and marvelling at the different twists and turns that my path is taking.
The thread that has motivated me throughout that journey is to see people develop and find their voice – whatever life throws in their way.

What is Coaching?
It seems to me that coaching is the most impactful way I can support another person’s development (and decision making). For that reason, I’m spending more of my time coaching and less time ‘working’.
Coaching is a conversation
You bring a question to think through. Questions often start with ‘How can I…’ and the coach enables you to find a way forward. The coach is skilled in deep listening, asking thoughtful questions, noticing what’s happening. Those skills can be helpful as you find an answer to your question in the time available. That may be a single session or a series of sessions over several months.
